Memorial for Irish Students in Tragic Balcony Collapse

We wish to express our condolences to the families of the Irish Students in Berkley who tragically died in the balcony collapse last night.

"That these young women and men just entering the prime of their lives and offering such hope and promise for the future should be taken from us in this brutal and tragic accident pains our hearts beyond all senses," said Allyn Anderson, Vice President of the Irish Fair Foundation in a statement on behalf of the Board of Directors.

He added that the Irish Fair Foundation is dedicating both the Catholic and Non-denominational Church Services at the Big Irish Fair this coming Sunday to the memory and for the repose of the souls of the Irish Berkley Students.

Mr. Anderson also noted that while no comfort can truly comfort their parents, families and loved ones--they should know that we all are united in sharing their grief and horror at this accident. "How sad...how very sad."

We invite those attending the BIG Irish Fair Sunday to join in these church services,
10:00 am at either the Shamrock Bowl or the Royal Tara Pavilion.

And of course, an Irish Fair wouldn’t be complete without traditionally costumed Irish Step Dancers with over a thousand dancers from around the country competing on six stages in a full Irish Feis (Competition). The Irish Fair’s salute to our troops and their families. The Irish Fair will admit free of charge all active duty military personal in UNIFORM, along with their immediate families. ID required.

FOOD FOR THE HOMELESS DISCOUNT 
Sunday morning between 9:30 & 10:30 the Irish Fair will offer a $4 per person discount off the full adult admission of $20. to those who donate 6 cans of food or more. If you would care to add to this effort, your contribution would certainly be appreciated, and we will accept food all weekend long. The food is donated to a local OC food bank. BIG IRISH FAIR HARP & FIDDLE TRADITIONAL MUSIC PROGRAM

The 40th Annual BIG IRISH FAIR & MUSICFEST on June 20-21, 2015 at Eldorado Regional Park in Long Beach, California - at the juncture of the 405 and 605 freeways, will host a major Irish traditional music program including Harp and Fiddle Competitions


FIDDLE COMPETITION Traditional Musicians Invited Free
The Fiddle Competition, under the director of well know local fiddler, Mike Kelly will take place on Saturday, June 20th. Fiddlers and other traditional musicians are invited to participate. Traditional Musicians with their traditional music instrument(other than spoons, harmonica's and tin whistles) are invited to attend the Fair free of charge. There also will be fiddle workshops and seissuns(music gatherings) throughout the weekend.

HARP COMPETITION
The Irish Harp Competition will occur on Sunday, June 21st under the direction of Darlene McGrady and also feature world renown Irish Harpers Dennis Doyle and Aedan MacDonnell. in addition, there will be Irish Harp workshops and seminars taking place both days of the BIG IRISH FAIR. Irish harpers also are invited to participate in the traditional music sessiuns taking place throughout the weekend.

AFTER IRISH FAIR SESSIUNS AT THE AULD DUBLINER IN LONG BEACH
The Auld Dubliner Pub in Long Beach is a sponsor of the sessiuns at the BIG IRISH FAIR and will host sessiuns back at the Auld Dubliner on both Saturday and Sunday after each BIG IRISH FAIR.

BIG Irish Fair Focus: The Young Dubliners

This year's BIG Irish Fair & Music Festival again welcomes The Young Dubliners. They'll be appearing June 20 & 21 / Sat & Sun / Long Beach, CA The BIG Irish Fair at Eldorado Park.

Influenced by the Pogues, Waterboys, U2, Celtic musician Christy Moore and Irish band The Furey Brothers, the Young Dubliners blend Irish folk, Irish pop songs and fierce guitar riffs into their music.

Vocalist and guitarist Keith Roberts refers to the band's song selection "as the best of the best representing poets, playwrights and vagabonds, indeed, centuries-old traditional melodies shimmer bookended by distinctive romps through the songcraft of Shane McGowan which brush up against the wistfully sad lyrics of Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh."

Formed by Dublin natives Keith Roberts and Paul O'Toole in 1988, the Young Dubliners paved their way to the Los Angeles pub scene where they built a solid fanbase, but never left their Irish roots too far behind.

LAX Direct to Dublin on Ethiopian Airlines

Beginning in June, Ethiopian Airlines will offer direct flights from LAX to Dublin, Ireland.

RTE reports that the African carrier will be the only airline flying direct between Dublin and LA.
Ethiopian chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam said the route would connect three continents, adding that he was confident the new route will appeal to both holidaymakers and business travelers.

Ethiopian Airlines plans to sell return flights between Dublin and Los Angeles and between Dublin and Addis Ababa from €595 or about $650 USD.

The Irish Fair Foundation is in talks with Ethiopian Air to be an Irish Fair sponsor.
